Early stage companies – commercial foundations

We try to help our early stage company clients and their investors maximise the value of their company from the outset, including by avoiding the common pitfalls that beset many companies.

We’ve summarised our most frequently given advice in our commercial foundations paper, originally prepared for the NZTE Escalator team (http://www.angelassociation.co.nz/index.php/escalator-home).

The Financial Services Act is expected to come into force in December of this year

We are concerned about the potential impact of the Act on private companies and their directors when involved in private M&A transactions, activity that has little or nothing to do with the retail financial adviser sector which the Act is intended to regulate.

We have summarised our concerns in a submission to the Commerce Select Committee on the Financial Service Providers (Pre-Implementation Adjustments) Bill.  We are hopeful that the Bill can be amended to address these problems with the Act.

The final report of the Capital Market Development Taskforce, Dec 2009 – comments from an innovation sector perspective

The Taskforce’s final report makes a range of recommendations intended to improve the performance of NZ’s innovation sector and its contribution to NZ’s capital markets.

Our comments from an innovation sector perspective include detailed comments on those recommendations and ten of our own ideas on how the sector could be assisted.

Practical changes to NZ business law and bureaucracy to help technology, IT and growth companies succeed

Our Practical Changes to NZ Business Law paper recommends 5 changes to business law to remove some of the unhelpful barriers to capital raising by early stage and growth companies.

We also suggest some changes to Government procurement policy to reduce costs and improve outcomes in the consultancy and IT sector, and touch on several existing Government initiatives that we would like to see retained.
